Fitness Coaching, by Dr. Chris Callahan
With summer officially begining in a little over a week, I thought it would be nice to discuss some of the ways we can get fit and have fun at the same time! One thing that my family and I have enjoyed is taking an evening walk after. The simple pleasure of walking through the neighborhood stopping along the way to talk with old friends or new acquaintences.
A simple premise should be understood when it comes to weight loss and maintenence. Inorder for our bodies to burn calories, and therefore body mass, we must increase the amount of energy that we expend over than the amount that we consume. To do that, we must be cognisant of what our habits, mental triggers that stimulate food cravings, and emotional triggers that make us lethargic are. With this insight, we can be more prepared for upcoming daily tasks and how to handle them.
The enjoyable activity of walking (exercise) about one hour after you have eaten your evening meal will help to increase digestion, expend your overall calories, decrease glycogen stores, assist in cortisol depletion, and "de-stress" your mind and body.
Try to incorporate an evening walk with YOUR families! Re-invest time in one another and the benefits will be outstanding for all of you.
